In the first installment of an excellent series, The Anna Davis Series, Runaway Girl, Emma Tallon introduces unique and fascinating characters who will end up being favorites with thriller readers everywhere. Anna Davis has been in a toxic relationship with an evil, sadistic gangster, and has had enough. She has been planning to escape for years, but hasn’t had the chance. Finally, things have come together for her and her plans are successful. She also knows that if Tony finds her, he will kill her, so she must be diligent and stay hidden. She has taken money, some of her own that she had hidden away, and some of his. A friend left a car for her, and she wrote a letter to her parents that couldn’t be traced. When she gets to London, she meets Tanya, who, throughout the series will become Anna’s roommate, best friend, and business partner. Anna is unable to tell Tanya the entire story, so there are places when Anna may be found out.

Tallon is excellent at developing her characters. Freddie Tyler, who is a crime boss, albeit not a vicious or mean one, meets Anna and feels like she is different from those women who constantly throw themselves at him. Tyler’s family is also introduced, and aside from being a crime family, seem just about as regular as any family living in your neighborhood. Tallon’s description of the London underworld is fascinating; while most readers want their characters to be good and honest, this is one place where the main characters are not upstanding and virtuous, but they are likeable, and live a lifestyle that is foreign to most of us.

Tallon knows how to tell a good story, and readers will want to read the subsequent books as soon as they finish this one. The London setting is a little different, and readers will be wanting more.
